Amazon has pulled out of a planned €300 million investment in Dublin that would have created over 500 jobs, citing uncertainty over the future electricity supply needed for the facility.

The proposed site was intended to serve as an AI testing and manufacturing plant, not a data centre. However, the company reportedly did not receive sufficient assurances that it could secure the required power from 2027 onwards.

Amazon had been in talks with ESB Networks regarding a connection, but ultimately concluded that the guarantees provided were not adequate to move forward.

Following a report in The Irish Times, ESB Networks confirmed it had been in "discussions" with Amazon about a feasibility assessment and was "actively working" to support the project until the decision was made to withdraw.

In a statement, Amazon expressed disappointment that the project could not proceed and said it hopes to pursue other high-tech investments in Ireland if conditions permit.

Planning permission had already been granted for the plant, which was to be located in an area with significant existing industrial power use. To date, Amazon has invested €22 billion in Ireland.
